Airbrushing – Techniques

Airbrush experience required, or must have completed Basic Airbrushing course.

PPG’s Custom Airbrushing Techniques course builds on the fundamentals learned during the Basic airbrushing course. It hones the skill set of the student by developing more involved custom art-work. 2 panels, split into 4 projects each for a total of 8 projects will be completed.

Gravity-feed airbrushes will be provided for student’s use during class. If desired, students may bring their own gravity feed airbrush.

All PPG Certified Refinish Technicians who have completed the Basic Airbrushing course.

Course Objectives

Instruct technicians on the fine art of Real Fire, Wood Grain, Diamond Plate, Rivets, Stone Effects and other advanced airbrush techniques including Blending and Shading.

Topics Covered

  • The use of Vibrance Collection® products and Envirobase® High Performance products or Deltron® 2000 Basecoats and DBC500

Check with the Business Development Center you plan to attend as to which paint system they will be offering.

  • Learn the proper use of Stencils and Templates
  • Learn the proper uses of Paint Mask
  • Proper use of X-Acto knives and razor blades.
  • Learn advanced masking techniques
  • Different types of Airbrushes and how they work
  • Air supply, Proper air pressure and Paint reduction
  • Cleaning and Troubleshooting
  • Techniques of holding the Airbrush, When to be close and when to be far away
  • Practice exercises on paper include;
    • Basic Strokes, Dagger, Lines, Dots, Circles, Shading
    • Using Stencils / Templates
    • Free Hand
    • 3D Effects
  • Panel projects include: Maltese Cross with Real Fire, Woodgrain, Paper scroll, Rose, Chrome beveled logo, Diamond Plate, Metal and Rivets, Granite Slab, Metal Tear Out and Bubbles.

Practice exercises are subject to change depending on student and instructor interests.

Students may bring their own gravity fed airbrush or one will be provided for use during the class.
