STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – October 1, 2014 – PPG Automotive Refinish has created new global branding for its popular ENVIROBASE® High Performance waterborne product line.

Updated product packaging for the leading PPG brand now sports a completely refreshed look that includes a redesigned paint system logo and new, colorful label designs for its waterborne toners and its integrated undercoats and clearcoats. According to PPG, the branding initiative is intended to better reflect the premium quality of the Envirobase High Performance paint line and the brand’s international leadership in waterborne refinish systems.

“With the brand’s broad market acceptance around the world, we thought it was time to give Envirobase High Performance a fresh look that would reinforce its foremost position in the industry,” said John Outcalt, vice president, global automotive refinish. “It is important to note that while the branding and packaging for Envirobase High Performance are new, we haven’t made any changes to the technology of the system. Our customers can expect the same premium PPG performance they are accustomed to.”

Outcalt adds that the new packaging replaces the familiar “water drop” image seen on the brand labels with a modern, molecular-shaped graphic design. The structured, dynamic graphic emphasizes innovation, color and technology—hallmarks of the brand and a reminder that PPG is the global leader in coatings. The new logo incorporates the well-known PPG blue emblem alongside the Envirobase High Performance name, ensuring better and faster recognition of the brand and the strength of the company behind it.

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – October 2, 2014 – PPG has now converted more than 10,000 collision centers in the United States and Canada to its waterborne systems, with the majority of these conversions taking place in National Rule areas rather than in low-VOC compliant regions. The announcement was made by PPG waterborne segment manager Tim Jones.

According to Jones, more than 10,000 collision centers in North America are now using PPG waterborne products, with more than 50 percent of these shops in National Rule markets. This means most PPG customers choose to use waterborne products and systems even though they are not required to do so to meet low-VOC regulations. They do so voluntarily because they want to improve their productivity.

"Waterborne is not just a compliance solution anymore,” said Jones. “More than 10,000 PPG customers in the U.S. and Canada see the value in superior color matching, excellent throughput and performance, consistent color mixes and other key qualities that our waterborne products provide. PPG has a long-standing commitment to the collision repair industry to deliver high-quality and time-saving products. ENVIROBASE® High Performance and AQUABASE® Plus products are easier to blend and apply; our customers appreciate this and see a real difference in their shops.

Jones attributes the success of PPG’s waterborne products to several factors including a highly effective and easy CONVERT WITH CONFIDENCE® transition process and the service and support customers receive from PPG and its best-in-class distributor partners. “Collision centers are converting to PPG’s waterborne with great results,” he said. “Shops are finding the actual conversion to waterborne is simple. They’re also finding that we support them and view their productivity as a measure of our mutual success."

Envirobase High Performance and Aquabase Plus products are now in their third generation. PPG introduced its waterborne technology to the international OEM market in 1986 and brought the world's first commercialized refinish waterborne basecoat to market in 1992. Since then PPG has added new primers and clearcoats to the two brands and will, according to Jones, continue to expand the product lines’ offerings.

PPG’s booth, 24501, will be filled with stunning cars and motorcycles showing off the latest, most vibrant designs and paint schemes in the custom build world. PPG will also be presenting work from some of the industry’s most talented designers and painters including several from PPG. Adding to the excitement, PPG has arranged for an all-star cast of painters and racing world celebrities to greet booth visitors, sign autographs and talk about their work.

  • A 1942 Willys Gasser built by Ron Cambra of Cambra Speed Shop, Orange, Calif. PPG master painter Paul Stoll applied his talents to the project.
  • Josh Bourassa’s “Predasaurus,” a monster of a motorcycle that lives up to its name. An enthusiast’s dream project, it’s finished in radiant green tones accomplished with the PPG DELTRON® system. Bourassa built the bike at his shop, True Kustom, in Englewood, Colo. Bourassa is also presenting other examples of his work.
  • Bobby Alloway’s 1956 Porsche 356A Coupe. Customized and painted at Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop in Louisville, Tenn., the sportster gleams with Alloway’s signature deep black finish achieved with PPG Deltron products.
  • A Harley-Davidson Road Glide painted by bike specialist Brian Horstmann of Sinthium, Inc., Phoenix, Ariz. The impressive PPG finish is a dark candy purple with silver metallic flake. The edgy graphics were airbrushed and pinstriped by Horstmann. He will also have some of his other work on display.
  • Roger and Chantel Welch’s boat—yes, a boat. The sleek 18-foot Sanger Picklefork Ski Hydro is painted, appropriately enough, with the Envirobase High Performance waterborne system and sports a finish of yellow, white, red, orange and black candy and pearl colors.
