Girls with Sole! Lacing up for a lifetime of achievement.STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – May 8, 2012 – PPG is proud to be the headline sponsor in the third annual “LULA” 5K Run set for Sunday, June 10, at Beachcliff Market Square in Rocky River, Ohio. Proceeds will benefit Girls With Sole, a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to “use fitness and wellness to empower the minds, bodies and souls of girls who have experienced abuse of any kind, or who are at-risk.”

As part of PPG’s Culture of Health program and its ongoing commitment to enhance the quality of life wherever the company has a presence, the sponsorship promotes fitness and awareness within PPG and throughout the community.

“PPG’s participation enriches the community and all who take part,” said Greg Benckart, vice president, PPG Automotive Refinish. “This cause is important because it helps ensure the future of our children. We believe in how Girls With Sole works to empower the minds, bodies, and souls of girls who have had trouble in their lives. This is about making a positive impact in these girls’ lives. We encourage everyone to run or walk, in a group, on their own, or with Team PPG in this worthwhile event.”

Founded in 2010 by Liz Ferro, herself a victim of sexual abuse, Girls With Sole embraces athletics and fitness as exemplified in the group’s acronym LULA—Lacing Up for a Lifetime of Achievement.

“The benefits of girls playing sports are numerous and range from physical well being and self-esteem to learning life skills such as leadership and team work,” said Ferro. “PPG’s commitment is greatly appreciated. They’re helping heighten our visibility and setting the groundwork for a healthy community in the future.”

Registration for the 5K run is now open. Registration can be done online. The first 500 pre-registered runners will receive a LULA race shirt. Online registration is encouraged and closes June 8. Late registration will be allowed at the event.
