Gateway Bronco restores the glory years, sets new charity record
It’s not often that a childhood passion turns into a dream career. But for Seth Burgett, owner of Gateway Bronco—widely considered the gold standard in vintage Ford Bronco restoration—childhood is where his success story begins.
At the tender age of seven, Burgett started working on small engines. Three short years later, he had the skill set to install trailer brakes on his father’s Ford F-250 pickup—not bad for a fourth-grader.
Over the next 15 years, he earned enough money rebuilding cars to put himself through college and engineering school, which led to a career developing medical devices. But it was only a matter of time before he would return to his life’s true calling—restoring vintage Broncos.
In 2016, Burgett launched Gateway Bronco in Hamel, Illinois. Back then, very few people could understand a business model that would have customers pay an average of $250,000 for a restored Ford Bronco. Burgett, however, stayed the course.
Today, Gateway Bronco is firing on all cylinders with a constant stream of work. “Our customers understand that the classic Ford Bronco is a legend,” said Burgett. “My passion is to bring this legend back to life by restoring vintage Broncos—but with a twist of modern performance, luxury and craftsmanship.”
While each Bronco is customized to owner preferences, the typical build starts with a first-generation Bronco (manufactured between 1966 and 1977). In some cases, customers come to Gateway with a Bronco in need of restoration. More often, however, the donor Bronco is secured by the company’s team of “barn find” specialists.
The vintage Ford is then completely rebuilt using the original frame, with all-new hardware, glass, components and powertrain on a reengineered suspension. “It’s a brand-new truck, hand-built on an assembly line the way Henry Ford envisioned,” said Burgett. “We offer a few different models, each powered by a Ford Coyote 5.0-liter V-8, which is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.”
As one might imagine, the interior of the restored Bronco is equally impressive—with features that can include genuine Porsche leather, heated seats, lighted power steps, and all the amenities that you would expect in a premium, custom vehicle crafted by highly talented restoration professionals.
Of course, when it comes to paintwork, no detail is overlooked. For this reason, Gateway relies on the DELTRON® DBC paint system. “DBC gives us a high sheen without the need to cut and buff,” explained Burgett. “When a Bronco rolls out of our paint booth, that’s exactly the way we deliver it to the customer.”
Quality craftsmanship and eye-catching designs have generated immense interest in Gateway Broncos. The company gained a truckload of notoriety by setting a world record at the 49th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.
Teaming up with NASCAR® driver Ryan Blaney and the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation—which in turn helps support the Alzheimer’s Association—Gateway Bronco built a one-of-a-kind 1974 Ford Bronco, providing it as a charity auction item. As Blaney drove the Bronco onto the block, he explained how his grandfather has Alzheimer’s disease and how much the cause meant to him and his family. The story clearly inspired the bidders, resulting in a sale of $650,000—the highest-ever charity sale in the history of the prestigious automobile auction.
“It was an honor to be involved with the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Association,” said Burgett. “My family has been affected by Alzheimer’s as well, and I’m grateful for the support these ever-important organizations provide.”
Looking down the road, Seth Burgett and the Gateway Bronco crew have plenty of reason to be optimistic. The Ford Motor Company recently launched the sixth generation of the iconic Bronco nameplate, which will more than likely fuel even greater passion for the “original SUV.” For a guy who has been taking things apart and putting them back together since the age of seven, this comes as very good news.

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio, Feb. 11, 2021 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced that Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) has approved the PPG Delfleet One® paint system for warranty and aftermarket repairs on its Freightliner® & Western Star® trucks.
As an integrated system of undercoats, topcoats and clearcoats, the PPG Delfleet One® paint system was especially developed to meet the color-matching and productivity needs of aftermarket users. It is a progressive paint system for the commercial transportation industry.
Covering the full commercial transportation color palette, the system offers volatile organic compound (VOC) ratings of 1.5 pounds per gallon for basecoat, direct gloss and matte finishes. Undercoats and clearcoats have VOC ratings as low as 1.4 pounds per gallon. As a result, the system can reduce VOC emissions by 57% compared to typical 3.5 VOC commercial paint systems, helping customers to meet regulatory requirements.
“We’re confident the PPG Delfleet One® paint system will ensure users achieve high-quality repairs on Freightliner and Western Star vehicles while also fostering a sustainable workplace due to the ultra-low VOC emissions,” said Scott Colvin, PPG brand manager, fleet segments, commercial coatings, U.S. and Canada. “We are pleased that Daimler Truck North America recognizes the system as a preferred paint line.”

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio, Feb. 25, 2021 – PPG (NYSE: PPG) today announced the launch of its premium NCP450 Iso-Free Primer Surfacer and NCX455 Iso-Free Catalyst for the U.S. market. Both products are specifically formulated without isocyanates.
Featuring advanced PPG technology, the new primer surfacer has been engineered to provide an exceptional foundation for PPG’s popular Deltron® basecoat automotive refinish system.

The product is easy to apply, wets up nicely, and lays down smooth. It can be applied with a roller or spray gun. NCP450 must be mixed with NCX455 Iso-Free Catalyst prior to application.

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 3, 2021 – PPG (NYSE: PPG) and the PPG Foundation today announced a commitment to invest $20 million by 2025 to address systemic racism and advance racial equity in the U.S. by funding educational pathways for Black communities and people of color. The commitment strengthens PPG’s focus on education – a priority giving area for PPG and the PPG Foundation – and furthers its support of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
“We aim to reach diverse students and communities to champion change and empower historically underrepresented populations with greater opportunities to achieve brighter futures,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility. “Through this important commitment, we will prioritize equity and justice within education to close the racial gaps in STEM learning and careers, and help our society meet collective challenges quickly, creatively and effectively.”
The $20 million investment reflects commitments to support:
- Advanced STEM education and career development - Supporting Black people and people of color who are pursuing advanced studies in engineering, chemistry and data science by funding scholarships, and academic and career counseling programs. PPG will focus on programs that promote inclusion, provide professional development and build bridges that enable middle and high school students to successfully pursue advanced learning opportunities and STEM careers.
- K-12 STEM education - Encouraging interest among more Black students, and students of color, through hands-on STEM experiences in afterschool programs, camps and in-school settings, as well as mentoring and career exposure.
- Social justice - Supporting new partners dedicated to social justice that were identified in collaboration with PPG’s employee resource networks (ERNs). PPG will support a range of social justice initiatives that focus on civil rights, criminal justice reform and the cultural heritage of Black communities and people of color.
- Beautifying diverse communities - Increasing the number of PPG COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® projects that impact diverse communities.
- Ongoing impact opportunities - Funding additional opportunities impacting Black and people of color populations that will be identified in collaboration with PPG employees, leaders and community partners, on an ongoing basis.
The PPG Foundation will direct at least 25% of diversity funding to organizations serving the company’s global headquarters community of Pittsburgh. It also will continue to invest more than 50% of its U.S.-based grantmaking to support causes that focus on Black communities and people of color, veterans, women, LGBTQ+ populations, economically disadvantaged individuals and families, and people with disabilities.
The community engagement commitment supplements PPG’s actions to further progress diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) companywide. PPG will continue to identify additional opportunities to ensure support to underrepresented groups around the world.
“At PPG, we believe in DE&I and have long upheld these values throughout our company and community engagement efforts to create stronger, more sustainable communities,” said Marvin Mendoza, global head, DE&I, PPG. “Our new community engagement commitments build upon PPG’s purpose to protect and beautify the world and align with our practices to create an equal and just society.”
In 2020, PPG continued its focus on DE&I across the company. In response to George Floyd’s death and the widespread civil rights movement that followed, the PPG Foundation made initial investments in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Legal Defense Fund, the Center for Policing Equity and the Equal Justice Initiative. In November 2020, the company appointed Mendoza to design, lead and execute PPG’s global DE&I vision and strategy, and leverage data-driven insights to accelerate the company’s DE&I agenda. PPG also relaunched and expanded its ERNs, providing employees with more opportunities to share ideas, learn from one another, and leverage the unique skills, experiences and perspectives of the PPG team.
PPG’s global community engagement efforts and the PPG Foundation aim to bring color and brightness to PPG communities around the world. We invested more than $11 million in 2019, supporting hundreds of organizations across 38 countries. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in fields related to coatings and manufacturing. Plus, we empower PPG employees to multiply their impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving. Learn more at communities.ppg.com.
