Products Containing Metals

The links below provide a guide to PPG Refinish Products containing heavy metals of concern. Depending on the particular regulation, products that contain lead (Pb), hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), trivalent chromium (Cr(III)), cadmium (Cd), selenium (Se) manganese (Mn), and nickel (Ni) may have to be monitored or replaced. Products that contain these items are listed with potential substitutes.

The following list applies to certain areas of the country (California, for example) where lead (Pb), hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), cadmium (Cd) and selenium (Se) are targeted for Refinish applications. An end user may want to reduce the hazardous waste characteristics of his trash, used booth filters and solvent-borne waste generated at his facility by choosing not to use the listed products (that contain these items). This list does not apply to operations where a facility is seeking an exemption to Title 40, CFR Part 63, subpart HHHHHH National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP): Paint Stripping and Miscellaneous Surface Coatings Operations.

The following list applies to operations where a facility is seeking to address Title 40, CFR Part 63, subpart HHHHHH National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants: Paint Stripping and Miscellaneous Surface Coatings Operations. Products listed contain lead (Pb), hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), trivalent chromium (Cr(III)), cadmium (Cd), selenium (Se) manganese (Mn), and nickel (Ni). If products listed are not used, an exemption to this NESHAP might be requested; written approval from the EPA would then be required.
