Q: Why do some variants have an "X number" designation? What does the X factor stand for?

A: The paint technician can manage and track Special field formulas with similar variant descriptors by using the X factor designation. The X factor is a unique identifier given to field variants. In the case where there are several "lighter" or "coarser" formulas for the same color record, each individual coarser variant is given a unique identifier. Painters can choose and register the X factor number for future reference. The X factor designation will stay with that formula if it is elevated to a variant code and enters the chipping process.
