PPG has released its schedule of commercial coatings training classes for the remainder of the 2017 calendar year. Courses specifically designed for the PPG DELFLEET ESSENTIAL® and DELFLEET® EVOLUTION brands and their use on commercial vehicles are held across North America at PPG Business Development Centers and various additional field locations.

PPG commercial coatings classes take one to two days and are led by expert PPG instructors and trainers. Classes cover a full range of topics from product selection, equipment and color tools to surface preparation and paint application best practices. Classes include classroom lectures, group discussions and hands-on experience in the paint booth.

In addition to product knowledge and painting techniques, commercial coatings classes offer technicians the opportunity for certification and recertification in the use of Delfleet Essential and Delfleet Evolution products. PPG paint technicians must be certified every two years to ensure that they stay current with changing paint technology. When PPG paint technicians are certified, and their respective commercial collision centers are certified, the centers may take part in the PPG Lifetime Limited Paint Performance Guarantee. PPG technicians must be recertified, as required, for the commercial collision center to continue participating in the PPG paint guarantee program.

Commercial coatings classes also cover the business side of refinish, teaching technicians how the efficient use of advanced Delfleet Essential and Delfleet Evolution products can enhance commercial collision center productivity and profitability while raising customer satisfaction.

“Our commitment to training is the strongest in the industry, and it’s absolutely critical to our commercial customers’ success,” said Randy Cremeans, PPG director of training. “This is a highly competitive segment, and we want our technicians up to date with the latest products and process techniques to deliver top quality refinish repair. Training ensures that we and our commercial collision centers stay at the forefront of our industry.”

A partial list of upcoming PPG commercial coatings courses includes:

  • Delfleet Essential Certification and Recertification
  • Delfleet Evolution Certification and Recertification
  • Delfleet Evolution Spot Repair and Color Tinting
  • Fundamentals of Commercial Truck Estimating
  • Commercial Performance Coatings—Spray Session
  • Commercial Performance Coatings Product Technologies

There’ll be plenty to scream about at the PPG exhibit at this year’s SEMA show set for Oct. 31– Nov. 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. PPG has filled booth 24601 with a haunting display of paint jobs coating a collection of world-class custom cars, a very special motorcycle and other surprising items. Visitors are invited to check out the mix of advanced refinish products, elite custom builders and unleashed imaginations.

“This is the industry’s show of shows,” said Cristina Fronzaglia-Murray, PPG manager, marketing communications. “If you’re into the car world, this is where you want to be. Every year the talented custom builders and painters get together here to display their work. It’s pretty amazing to see what these people can create, and we’re thrilled they choose PPG refinish products to take them over the top.”

The industry’s top names can be found at the PPG booth:

  • Charley Hutton, Charley Hutton’s Color Studio
Hutton’s work has won four Ridler Awards, a Barrett-Jackson Cup Ultimate Best of Show award, an America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award, Goodguys Street Rod of the Year and Custom Rod of the Year awards and other major prizes. Hutton uses only PPG products.

  • Bobby Alloway, Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop
A member of the National Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame, Alloway builds standout street rods. America’s Most Beautiful Roadster, Goodguys Street Rod and Street Machine of the Year and a Ridler honor are just a few of his awards. DELTRON® coatings are Alloway’s paint preference.

  • Tom and Mitch Kelly, Kelly & Son Crazy Painters
Tom is a gifted striper and muralist; son Mitch is renowned for his wild and colorful designs. Together the Kellys are key players in Southern California’s edgy car scene. The Kellys choose VIBRANCE COLLECTION® custom paint finishes for their remarkable work.

  • Kenny Youngblood, Youngblood Art/Motorsport Gallery
Known as “the father of modern-day race car designs,” Youngblood is one of drag racing’s most talented graphic artists. His work has been featured in numerous motorsport publications and on various TV shows including Monster Garage.

  • Jeremy Seanor, PPG and Lucky Strike Designs
An up-and-coming custom painter, pinstriper and PPG trainer, Seanor is a regular at major events such as the Syracuse Nationals and Detroit Autorama. Well versed in a variety of styles, Seanor relies on PPG products for his custom paint and special effects work.

  • Brad Keselowski, Team Penske
A Team Penske Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver, Keselowski currently drives the team’s No. 2 Ford Fusion. Team Penske is one of NASCAR’s most successful squads and Keselowski is one of its key drivers. He will be in the booth to share his racing adventures. PPG products are Team Penske’s choice for its cars.

  • John Force Racing Team
John Force Racing’s domination of Funny Car drag racing over the last quarter century is unparalleled and despite Force turning 67 this year, there is no indication the team he created is losing any of its traction. That’s because over the last several seasons more attention has been focused on a new generation of drivers and mechanics charged with keeping the team in the Mello Yello winner’s circle for decades to come. The Team turns to PPG products for its dragsters.

In addition, PPG will host a Facebook Live Fan Q+A with Charley Hutton, Bobby Alloway and Collision Hub’s Kristen Felder. Fans are invited to submit questions for Hutton or Alloway and a chance to win a PPG SEMA T-shirt and a poster autographed by one of these standout painters. PPG has announced its schedule of paint technician certification classes for the remainder of the 2017 calendar year. The certification courses are intended to ensure PPG paint technicians stay current with product offerings and advances. The classes, led by experienced PPG instructors and trainers, usually take two days and are held at PPG Business Development Centers and various field locations across North America. Technicians receive classroom instruction along with hands-on training.

Courses are tailored for each PPG premium brand including the DELTRON®, ENVIROBASE® High Performance, GLOBAL REFINISH SYSTEM® and AQUABASE® Plus product lines. Recertification classes for the Deltron and Aquabase Plus brands are also available. The classes cover a full range of topics from product selection, equipment and color tools to surface preparation and paint application best practices.

Full course descriptions with October, November and December dates and locations along with registration instructions can be found under the training section of PPGRefinish.com.

“We are constantly advancing the technology of PPG refinish systems and want technicians to be experts in using our products,” said Randy Cremeans, PPG director of training. “By taking our certification training classes, technicians will be up to date with the latest products and process techniques for maximizing paint booth productivity and completing quality refinish repairs.”

Cremeans points out that with the growing number of OEM special effects, there’s a lot for technicians to know. To address the diverse nature of the refinish industry and to ensure consumer expectations are properly met, PPG also offers classes in tricoat, quadcoat and specialty finishes.

“Refinish technologies are advancing so rapidly that technicians can’t risk being left behind. That’s what’s driving PPG training—the most comprehensive in the industry,” added Cremeans.

Certification training is integral for technicians that are new to PPG. PPG paint technicians must be recertified every two years to ensure that they stay up to date with ever-evolving color selections, substrates and processes. When PPG paint technicians are certified, and their respective collision centers are certified, the centers may offer the PPG Lifetime Limited Paint Performance Guarantee. PPG technicians must be recertified as required for the collision center to continue participation in the PPG paint guarantee program.
